Method of the master Sri K. Pattabhi jois,
disciple of T. Krishnamacharya (Mysore India)
Ashtanga –Eight limbs or stages-
Yama- Universal ethical principles-
Niyama- Looking at oneself-
Asana- Postures-
Pranayama- Breath control-
Pratyahara- Internalization of conscience-
Dharana- Concentration-
Dhyana- Meditation-
Samadhi- Contemplation-
Vinyasa- Breath synchronized with
movement.
YoYoga- Union - Patanjali (Wise
Indian man): Yoga is achieved by controlling the movements of conscience
“yoga chitta vritti nirodhah”.
The Ashtanga method consists of a sequence of postures
linked together by transition movements and specific breath (ujjayi
pranayama), as well as of other two techniques (bandhas and dristhi).
Bandhas – locks that activate
the pranic energy and the energy channels of the body (nadis).
The three most important
ones are:
Mula bandha – perineum zone-
Uddiyana bandha –low part of the abdomen-
Jalandhara bandha -throat-
Dristhi- Eyes fixed on different
specific points during the practice; eg: the tip of the nose.

If this kind of traditional yoga is practised
in its correct sequential order, applying the above-mentioned techniques
correctly, it generates considerable internal heat, purifies toxins
that are in the body, works on the endocrine and central nervous
system, improves concentration, oxygenates blood, gives strength,
flexibility and clarity of thought.
“Practice and everything will
come”
Sri k Pattabhi jois
